Gearbox Oil Level Check??? 98 Lanos

Post by babak »

hi all,

I am trying to change the oil on my manual box but at the top I see not lever gauge to show me how much oil is in there.

Where do I put oil in from?

How do I get the old oil out?

Next to the driver side diff/drive shaft, there is a bolt which I think it is for oil. But that should be at the buttom of the sump not 10cm above
it because old oil will not be drained out through that point completely.

Help Please!

Some pics would be nice...

daewoo workshop manual is pretty much useless and has no good information in there at all...does not tell you how you drain the oil, does not tell you where the inlets and outlets are for the oil. nothing whatsoever. By that I mean all workshop manuals are crap not just for daewoo...

There is no drain plug for manual gearbox as oil don't need to be changed (dixit Daewoo).
You just check level.
If you want to change oil anyway you have to remove gearbox sump. Original oil is red but I don't think it's Dexron. Use SAE80 API GL-4.

Edit: that's the right stuff you need

quite true daniel

their is no drain plug... you have to remove the sump (and replace seal)

refill is from the side bolt you mentioned and the box takes 1.8 liters of oil

their is a 17mm plastic bolt covered with a black plastic cap on top of the tranny case near the gear shift linkage

remove it and fill the gearbox through that hole

thanks...I found something like what you describe but oh boy good luck taking that cap off...its like as if its glued to there...

I ended up taking the gear lever boc off and put oil in that way...but now i can not put it back on properly...it does not fit into position right and gears locked...

I suppose i have to disconnect the linckage arm from the cover and do it that way....

:(
