Nubaroo@ The Rock 1/8mile races 12 September 2010

Post by Nubaroo »

The Daewoo surprises me more and more every time we go there 8) 8) 8)

Had a few runs against "slow" cars just for fun. Then got asked for a run by a MK2 Jetta that was kicking some serious butt - I was scared
launching in 2nd gear at 2.5bar boost he sat next to me till end of 2nd gear by when I stretched him about 1 car length. Hooked 3rd gear wif now getting traction and by the end of 3rd at the traps I had stretched him about 3 to4 car lengths. This Jetta gave an Audi RS4 carrots just the run before   Asked the guy if he wanted a rerun but he declined

Best NOTABLE run for the night was against an ....oh here comes k*k....M5 wif NOS. Launched again in 2nd gear at 2.5bar boost. He sat next to me for the first 50meters and by the end of 2nd gear I was about 2 car lengths ahead. Just before shifting to 3rd my car went onto 3 cylinders    I thought F@cket and shifted to 3rd anyways - car still running on 3 cylinders. By the traps he had closed the gap where I could just see his headlights in my side mirror. Checked the Woo on the return lane....no banging or knocking sounds.....no smoke from the exhaust....just prut prut prut 3 cylinders. In the pits checked under the hood - no blowby etc etc. Checked the plugs but before I could start pulling them out my bud showed me that the injector plug wire on my No4 cylinder had broken off - THANK YOU LORD!!! This could have been expensive

Frans from TDM at The Rock sorted me out by fitting a new injector plug and I was able to have another few runs for the evening until my AVGAS ran out

Oh yeah also had arun against a stock Lancer Evo 4. He outlanched my off the line by about 2 car lengts(obviously   ), by the end of 2nd gear I passed him and stretched him 1 x car lengt, and at the traps I was about 4 cars ahead

Sounds like great fun, I wish I could be beating cars like that, unfortunately the megasquirt is giving me problems ( poor assembly by supplier )

Given it's getting cold already, I don't think I will have enough time to fix it before the last track day :(

Very good news man! Glad to hear you didn't blow anything too. Are you liking the F23 overall? That might be my next transmission if the F28 gives out.

Hi there bud.

The F23 is nice and strong - also the cable shift type selectors are much smoother than the linkage ones. Also the F28 boxes and their spares are getting very limited here in SA. F23 spares or even import boxes are readily available 8) 8)

With that much power 1st gear is useless , you just end up spinning out.

Launching in 2nd gear is best when you have the power/torque to make a good launch and it's very hard on the driveline.

Hell, with the F16 ratios you could probably launch in 3rd, but I'm sure that would mean instant death for those little gearboxes.

Some really high power drag cars only have two really long gears to reduce the number of shifts and give a long smooth pull through the 1/4 mile.

Hi guys.

I have not tried launching in 2nd gear at an official drag meeting so I cannot give you 60ft times, but what I can say is that at The Rock raceway we do 200 meter runs (not timed). There when I launch in 1st gear a Subaru WRX STI with Nitrous kills me by about 2 x car lengths......and when I launch in 2nd gear we have a draw at the finish line which means I gain 2 x car lengths on the 200m mark . So - I reckon this should affect my 60ft times quite nicely :D :D :D
